This stand-alone accessory dwelling unit was featured on the City of Portland's Build it Green! home tour. The Earth Advantage home incorporates super-insulated double-stud walls, in-floor radiant heat, and a heat recovery ventilator. Designer Brint Riggs worked with the homeowner to meet a tight construction budget, and designed around land use codes which restrict the size and appearance of infill projects. The 799-square-foot home feels spacious despite its small size due to cathedral ceilings and an open floor plan. The design responds to the site, including the owner's favorite tree, and will provide partial passive solar heat during the winter months due to its small size and southern exposure.
